Over the passed year, there has been an immense increase in the amount of hatred and racism towards the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. We all know why and its disgusting. Purely disgusting. This isn’t something new tho. We talk so much about black, brown, and white, but when do we talk about the Asian American and Pacific Islander community? Too many times, we have conversations that leave the AAPI community out. Just like many other categories of people, asians experience racism and hate, and many times they feel unheard and unseen.
Its wrong to discriminate against asian americans because of their physical features, their family origins or just because they are a part of the AAPI community. Period. FULL STOP.
DO NOT allow racism to exist in your spaces. Don’t just put a post up about stopping hate against the AAPI community. Be about that action. Have a conversation with our asian brothers and sisters about how they and their families have been affected. Support asian businesses. Learn the culture, don’t appropriate, LEARN! Use your platforms to raise the issues rather than cowering behind the notion that you might lose friends, clients, etc.
You know I’m very vocal about the social issues that we all face everyday and especially vocal about the issues that people of color face. If you and I can’t stand up for what I believe in publicly, then there’s a real problem here.
If you see something racist, speak up! If someone says something racist, speak up! Speak up for those who may not have a voice, speak up for those that feel unheard. SPEAK UP FOR ASIAN AMERICANS.
